This study examines a model of the rhetorical inimitability of Qur’anic diction, focusing on the nuanced relationship between the terms al-rijz and al-rijs in the Arabic language. It highlights their close semantic and morphological-phonological proximity, and then analyzes the meanings each conveys in the Noble Qur’an by cataloguing all the verses in which they occur—each appearing exactly ten times.
The research investigates the exegetical interpretations and contextual usages of these verses, drawing upon the most authoritative works of Qur’anic commentary, and seeking to reconcile the various scholarly opinions presented therein. Through this analytical approach, the study aims to illuminate the precision of Qur’anic word choice between these two terms, demonstrating one facet of its miraculous eloquence.
