Abstract

Volunteer work is one of the noble values that Islam has called for, because of the good it brings to individuals and societies, and because it reflects the spirit of cooperation and solidarity among people, and contributes to achieving good for the entire society. Islam has encouraged volunteer work in its various forms, from volunteering effort, money, time and knowledge, and made it permissible, as indicated by the frequent evidence from the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet.

Among the benefits of volunteer work is that it enhances love and compassion among members of society, develops positive human values, and improves the standard of living within a single society, because Islam was not limited to individual worship, but rather encouraged work that benefits the entire society.

Volunteer work has controls, including: that the volunteer should not be forced to do it, that it be purely for the sake of Allah, that it be without financial compensation, and that it be permissible, possible and well-done.
